Bercow's wife voted off Big Brother
Bercow's wife voted off Big Brother. The wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons has become the first contestant to be voted off Celebrity Big Brother. Sally Bercow, 41, looked a little stunned as she emerged from the house to boos from fans waiting outside. The mother-of-three, married to Conservative John Bercow, left the house glammed up - wearing a red and black knee length dress and bright red lipstick.
Mrs Bercow revealed her husband did not want her to enter the house, and reacted to being the first booted out by saying: "How embarrassing is that? I'm a bit embarrassed to be the first one out - it's a bit of a loser thing to be the first one out but I'm looking forward to seeing my children."
Host Brian Dowling said there was only 1% in the public vote between Mrs Bercow and model Bobby Sabel.
Mrs Bercow said: "I had a lot of opposition to be going into the house - well, from various people in the political world and indeed from my husband who I love very much. But he did not want me to go into the Big Brother House...a lot of people did not want me to go in because it's not something the Speaker's wife does."
She added: "I'm really glad I've done it, partly because I've raised £100,000 for my charity."
Mrs Bercow, who gave a frank interview to the Evening Standard posed in a bedsheet and saying how "sexy" it was to live within earshot of Big Ben, said she knew Kerry Katona, who was also up for eviction, would not be voted off before her.
Mrs Bercow made an unlikely friendship inside the house with Irish traveller Paddy Doherty who sprang to fame after appearing in the television series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
Talking affectionately about Doherty, a former bare-knuckled fighter who lives in a Manchester caravan park, she said: "You wouldn't have predicted it, we're from completely different worlds. But as soon as I met him there was just something so genuine, just real about him. And I did like the accent too."
